M’S COLLECTION

RICH, DIVERSE AND LOCALLY ANCHORED

The M collection contains more than 58,000 objects, from the Stone Age to the present. The late Gothic, the Renaissance and the 19th century are particularly well represented. M also holds a valuable collection of contemporary art, with many works by Belgian artists.

M’s origins is as an urban museum. That is why the collection reflects the history and culture of Leuven and the former Duchy of Brabant. Our collection has now become broader and more international, but the local anchoring remains important.

More than just fine arts

The M collection is very diverse. In addition to the visual arts, it contains an extensive collection of applied arts, an extensive print collection, an archaeological collection and a collection of historical coins. Temporary exhibitions introduce visitors to lesser-known pieces from the collection, often in dialogue with loaned pieces.

From the depot to the museum rooms

The old and contemporary art collections are both regularly used for temporary exhibitions and collection presentations.
