Anna van der Ploeg works primarily across the mediums of painting, sculpture, and printmaking. She is interested in interaction and inscription, and how they relate to prescribed roles, script and dialogue.

Van der Ploeg's work is driven by the observation of moments of inter-relation and the role language plays in these exchanges. She seeks to capture the dynamics of communication and the precarity of interactions in images. From this focus, Van der Ploeg collects DIY posters. The posters are self-made and distributed by the messenger. They are a manifestation of a desire to be heard, to send a thought or message into the world, the public conceiving of and talking amongst itself. These particular types of posters create a portrait of their communities and what the individuals that comprise them are concerned with, their offerings and needs. These notices mediate exchange between strangers in a hyperlocal and analogue way.

Inspired by the found posters, Van der Ploeg creates new sculptures. She combines elements of sculpture with painting to create her own method of working, carving, painting and bending plywood. She also experimented with marmoleum, a natural raw material mix used as flooring, for the first time during the residency.

The presentation unlocks Van der Ploeg's research in the form of a small-scale presentation in the museum and words by writer Persis Bekkering.
