Inventory and digital access

Inventory and digital access

It is only possible to open up a collection of tens of thousands of objects online if you have thoroughly researched and digitised it first. Inventory is therefore a basic task for every museum. We are working on it.

In the collection database on the M website, everyone - researchers and professionals, but also the general public are able to search through a selection from the M collection online. The database will be expanded step-by-step as the collection grows and knowledge about it increases.

The Prints Cabinet

About half of our collection, some 25,000 pieces, consists of loose-leaf graphics - prints, in other words. In recent years, this huge collection has been inventoried with the help of a group of enthusiastic volunteers. The most beautiful and interesting discoveries were shown in the collection presentation 'Impressive!' - the result of a project of the same name subsidised by the Flemish government.

Pre-1801 bound graphics

In 2021, we started a similar project: ‘Boek/Delen’. This will run until 2023 and will register, digitise, repackage and provide online access to the pre-1801 bound graphics. Specifically, it concerns old prints, manuscripts and picture albums. Our volunteers will help us with this project too.
