Leuven without M would not be Leuven
Olivier: "M opened in 2009. The building immediately appealed to me – I really like the mix of old and new elements. Soon after that, I became an M-bassador. That gives you unlimited access to the museum and many other benefits."
"Initially, I went with the family. The children were still young, and I regularly took them to M. We even organised a birthday party for my son there once. He is now 16 and we recently went on a city trip to Paris together. He definitely wanted to go to the museums. So you see, you learn when you are young (laughs)."
"By now, I have been an M-bassador for over a decade. I have been combining that with a museumPASSmusées for a number of years. That gives me access to more than 220 museums in Belgium, but I still remain M-bassador. There are a number of great good reasons for doing that."

The museum for everyone in Leuven
"First of all, I think supporting M is important. Leuven is a city that rightly is proud of its past but is also open to new developments. The same in fact applies to M, just look at the combination of ancient and contemporary art, at the architecture of the building... M is also right in the middle of town, it is a bit like the museum for everyone in Leuven. It is no longer possible to imagine Leuven without it. This city without M would not be Leuven."
"As an M-bassador, you also enjoy all kinds of benefits. There are interesting lectures you can go to, for example. I remember one about the Arenbergs, in 2018. Up until that point, I really only knew that family by name, but since then I know how important they have been for Leuven, without them we would have a lot fewer historical buildings, and no Heverleebos or Meerdaalwoud. When I visited the Arenberg exhibition at M after that lecture, I took away a lot more from it."
"As an M-bassador, you can also take part in cultural excursions and tours with artists and curators. I would like to do that again. I think it would be particularly interesting to hear, say, a contemporary artist talk about his or her work."
"Once a year, M organises a Friends Day for M-bassadors and M-art patrons. I always try to go along to that. You will hear about new exhibitions and activities coming up, get a bite to eat and a drink... You can also bring someone with you - very enjoyable."

Always something to do
"There is always something going on at M. I love just popping in there to enjoy an exhibition. The one about alabaster, for example, let a deep impression. You could touch and compare alabaster and other materials, which was amazing. Sofie Muller, a contemporary artist, had also created new works in alabaster especially for the exhibition: impressive."
"There are also works I return to again and again. Like Constantin Meunier's sculptures. The hour and calendar dial from 1500. Orla Barry’s 'Year X' is also special to me – that's that wall full of signs with intriguing statements, in the first museum room. I sometimes get the feeling that new signs have been added. Or is that just my imagination?"
"I usually go to M on my own. Afterwards, I have a drink in the coffee corner, so I am glad that it's back. I mainly use my museumPASSmusées to visit other museums with friends. We’ve done Rinus van de Velde at Bozar, the Bruges museums, the renovated KMSKA in Antwerp... To me, pass as a kind of art subscription, just like you have a subscription for a newspaper or the gym. It lowers the threshold to go to a museum, and you have earned the price back after just a few visits. If you combine the museumPASSmusées with the M-bassadorship, you really don't pay that much more, and you support an extraordinary place in your own city. I will definitely do it again next year."
