M-resident Angyvir Padilla shows her research

Angyvir Padilla's extensive photo archive from her time living in Venezuela and subsequent visits  forms the basis for her new work, in which she translate memories of home into sculptural installations and a performance. While exploring the long-distance connection to childhood spaces and family, she delves into the emotions tied to migration.

Fascinated by the concept of ‘uprooting’, Padilla examines the symbolic and ritualistic significance of flowers and plants within domestic settings across different cultural contexts. In so doing, she draws connections between the gardens and domestic spaces of her memory – in  particular her grandmother’s garden and house – and her present life in Belgium.

M presents the results of Angyvir Padilla's residency from 11 October to 5 January 2025 at the museum.
